I saw this last night when the announcement hit and just laughed. Insanely poor timing on their part to put this out just after Double RP, when many people either paid the old price for GMoPs or were road blocked in their refining because of no GMoPs.
I knew it was coming, so have several things ready to go once I could afford the GMoPs - which will be sooner now. Still doesn't take the sting away.
We knew the Leadership changes were coming - just hope they improve the RP drops, and make it easier to level.
Curious to see if we can make more AD with each skirmish and dungeon giving some, instead of the Rhix Dailies ... Withholding judgement til we try it.

I wouldn`t abandon Leadership at all, you can get end up making your own Refining items apparently Also its been mentioned before, on another website I think, that you can also sell those refining items for a profit too.

This is going to be a hard pill to swallow for everyone who has significantly invested in leadership.
Having said that, there is a hidden benefit.
AD is about to become scarce - and what is scarce becomes valuable.
The relationship between AD and Zen is going to change, with AD significantly increasing in value.
While it will be harder to accumulate AD, it will become cheaper to convert AD to Zen, which will make everything from VIP to epic mounts, to bags cheaper.

When i originally read that, I assumed it means no more exiting and coming back in to get better gear

Correct, it is a return to the earlier days when it required multiple complete runs to get any given piece of gear.

Whilst there is RP items I believe they are around level 24 so you're still looking in the region of 160,000xp which unless things change drastically is months of pure grind.
This update half effects me, whilst I got every character on my account 20 leadership a couple months after release I haven't actually logged onto any alts for several months as I lost my spark for the game so although my main income has been removed I haven't needed to use it for a very long time.
The % of people this likely effects proffession wise, I guess would be pretty low. This just means a month down the line I'm going to buy the full lostmouth set for 100k. Profit.
I personally always forgot to peek the reward screen before running.

Question - since the "Salvage Operation" quest was retired, do characters still have to make level 60 before they can salvage or could they do it earlier?

You just made my day!
On the weekends, I'll do more dungeons and skirmishes to grab salvagable BtoA items, send them to alts for salvage and refinement during the week. This will also encourage me to get the daily VIP bonuses for those characters!

With one exception, I don't really know that I care about my alts enough to outfit them.
That one exception being that I need to get one to level 70 to unlock the epic artifact quest, but, other than that, I just see them as farm fodder for the Tank Ranger.
Once I get Wilford to a minimum gear level, I need to focus on building Zen to handle healing stones and renewing VIP. After I reach my monthly Zen minimum (1.07 million per month), I can then look at upgrading Wilford's enchants and artifacts as well as hoarding Zen for special events and purchases.
I can also use seals to buy goods for salvage at that point.
The real question is this - can I do enough runs on the weekend that I manage to funnel 840,000 worth of salvage to my alts to process each week?
During the week, I have time to do 75% of my dailies or to do about 40% plus a couple of dungeon runs/skirmishes. I can probably keep up 24,000 roughs a day with Wilford, but if I'm going to feed my other 5, that will take some work.
Things will be a good bit easier when I get my professions leveled up and can produce sale-able goods for the AH at some level of profit.

Does this mean the auction house market is going to change now aswell , if ad is more scarce , are prices going to increase or decrease?

In a straight forward world.
Less AD = Lower prices More AD = Inflated prices
For example. If I pull in 100k a day I wouldn't think twice about throwing 1mill at an item I needed. If however it takes a month to get 100k then I would be less willing to throw 1mill at an item even if it was something I needed.

Making AD scarce increases its buying power. You'll get less for the items you sell, but, to balance that, items that you want to buy will cost less, as well.
That will not be an immediate effect, though, as lots of players are sitting on substantial "backlogs" of rough AD that will have to be filtered through the system.
For the next couple of months, look for wild fluctuations in AD/Zen conversion and also in item costs, as people readjust their perceptions. I wouldn't bother trying to speculate on in-game commodities right now.

Well, I have to say I'm in a bit of a rough spot with AD because I spent it all for double RP, but I never relied on leadership to make any for me so that won't be much of an issue. I do expect that over time we will see the prices in the AH drop, but for the first couple of weeks I think items outside of GMOPs will probably stay in the same range.
What I'm getting at here is that if you can get your hands on a nice item (like Lostmauth's Horn etc) then the time to sell will be in the coming days when there is still a lot of AD floating around. If you can build up a nice supply then it should stretch pretty far as prices drop. In fact I'll probably put some $$ into Zen to try and get some things that I can sell for a nice hefty AD price.

Don't really mind this change personally, was kind of annoying trying to do shores with people running out and back in, with the amount people were doing it probably could have finished 4 or 5 times it seemed.
